Imagine a shy high schooler, clutching a clunky camera, snapping grainy photos of sunsets and giggling friends, totally unaware that little box would one day shape her entire world. That was me, stumbling into photography with no grand plan. Today, I’m a coffee-fueled, traveling photographer, mom to five incredible kids (four girls, one boy), and have been married to Dan, for over 17 years. Our life is a wild blend of chaos, love, and adventures that feel straight out of Lord of the Rings, with a dash of Outlander romance and Harry Potter magic.
Life at home is a glorious whirlwind with our five kids, our greatest masterpieces, who keep us laughing, learning, and occasionally losing our minds. Dan and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, even when the dishes stack up like Sauron’s army. We’ve faced some serious battles, too. I kicked cancer to the curb, and Dan survived a heart-stopping 42-foot cliff fall. Those moments broke us open but built us back stronger, showing us we’re tougher than we ever imagined—like Frodo and Sam, but with better coffee.
Speaking of coffee, it’s my lifeblood. Whether I’m editing photos, dreaming up our next retreat, or chasing our kids around, a latte is always close by. I’m a Lord of the Rings nerd (Gandalf’s “You shall not pass!” is my parenting mantra), an Outlander fangirl (Jamie Fraser, need I say more?), and a Harry Potter devotee (Gryffindor loyalty runs deep). These stories inspire me to find magic in the everyday, whether I’m framing a couple’s kiss or tucking my kids in at night.
Our retreats are where the magic happens. Picture this: a group of photographers gathered around a crackling fire in Scotland, whiskey in hand, swapping stories after a day of shooting elopements on misty cliffs (like our upcoming November 16-20 adventure). Or hiking Oregon’s volcanic trails near Bend, cameras ready to capture love against rugged canyons. Dan and I don’t just host—we dive in, becoming part of the group, mentoring newbies, and cheering on every “aha” moment. From welcome dinners with local flavors to hands-on sessions in jaw-dropping locations like Milford Sound in New Zealand or the Isle of Skye, we create spaces where photographers grow, connect, and find their creative courage. It’s about building community, sharing authentic storytelling, and leaving with friendships that last long after the last shutter clicks. Watching someone nail their first epic shot or book their dream client because of our retreat? That’s the stuff that lights me up.
Outlander the show is my guiltiest pleasure
Colorado's western slope, nestled in the majestic San Juan Mountains, is a photographer's paradise where rugged peaks pierce the sky and ancient mining towns whisper stories of the past. In Ouray, known as the Switzerland of America, you'll find hot springs bubbling amid dramatic canyons, perfect for capturing that raw, alpine glow during golden hour. Venture to Silverton for its Victorian charm and wildflower meadows, or Durango for scenic train rides through pine forests and river valleys. It's the kind of place that makes you breathe deeper and dream bigger.
We're off to the Evergreen State!
Our photography retreat in Washington promises an unforgettable experience for elopement enthusiasts. We will immerse ourselves in the rugged Pacific Northwest culture, embark on a thrilling excursion though Olympic National Park (including the enchanting Hoh Rain Forest with its moss-draped trees, lush trails, and serene rivers), maybe spot an orca or elk along Ruby Beach's dramatic shores, and take in the breathtaking coastal views. Together, we will create and capture a collection of incredible moments.
The Isle of Skye in Scotland is a wild-hearted dream where rugged cliffs plunge into misty lochs, ancient castles whisper legends, and fairy pools sparkle like hidden gems. Imagine capturing elopements amid heather covered hills, with the wind carrying your laughter through dramatic landscapes that feel straight out of a fairy tale. It's the kind of place that reignites your soul, forging connections with fellow creatives who become family.
